日本に来てから２年たったからいろいろいい経験があります。以下は僕のランキングです！

１。親切

日本中どこでもに行っても親切な人に出会えます。一番いい思い出は白馬の森にマウンテンバイク

を壊したときに魔法のように森から人が出てきて助けてくれたのです。さらに僕の宿泊まで送ってくれました。

２．安全

東京に行ったときは地下鉄ですごいことを見た。二人のこども、たぶん５～７歳の子が自分で学校に行く。オーストラリアではそういうことはありえない。だって危険すぎです。でも日本では子供が親なしで学校に行くのを沢山を見ました。

３．正確さ

電車も飛行機もバスも予約など。日本の人口すごく高いのに社会はスムーズによく動いていて機械なように進んでいます。

小さいのことも大体完璧。店のスタッフのマナー、商品の発表、綺麗な町の通り、キチンと計画した公園。

４．文化

日本人は大体日本の文化を守りながら海外の文化を取り入れる。そういうコンビが文化の進化だと思います。

５．料理

ほんとに美味しくないものをまだ食べてない！好きなやつは豚カツ、アンドーナツ、豚ドン、まぐろ、などなど！

６．温泉

温泉はオーストラリアにはないので最初に行ったのはちょっと恥ずかしかったです。でもすぐ慣れてきて日本の一番いい湯を見つけたい！

７．雪

今北海道のニセコに住んでいるので世界一のパウダーでスキーが滑れる！

８．景色

山、川、森、湖は日本にはすごく綺麗です！

９．ビール　－　うまい！

１０．漫画・映画

質と量に感動しました！一番好きな漫画はノノノノ。映画は秒速5センチメートルです。

How to free your Ipod - An alternative to Itunes for Ipod Nano g6

Last year I bought an Ipod Nano g6 and suddenly found I had no choice but to use Itunes for loading my songs! Before this I was using floola to manage the song on my Ipod nano g5 but unfotunately the folks at floola have yet to provide support for the Nano Gen 6. So for the last year I have been putting up with Itunes annoying interface, constant useless updates, and overall inability to correctly display the data from many of my mp3s.

A month ago I bought a new hard drive for my laptop and had to re-install all my software including the newest version Itunes. From that point I started getting constant errors in Itunes and Windows 7 could simply not install the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver correctly.

After running through all the steps on the Apple help page and reinstalling Itunes more times than i can remember I kind of gave up on my Ipod for a little while. I then decided it was time to divorce itunes once and for all find a better way to manage my songs, someway, somehow. So here are the steps I took.

1. Getting windows to recognize my Ipod and install the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver.

After having no luck with any of the newer versions of Itunes and serched through my old files to find a copy of Itunes ... 32bit. Since I am running windows seven 64 bit now I did not think this would work but to my surprise it helped more than I could imagine! After install an error message came up saying Itunes could no run properly but when I plugged my Ipod in windows found it instantly and the USB driver wan installed and working perfectly!

So now my computer could recognize my ipod again but i had a faulty 32bit version itunes that was practically useless..

2. Itunes replacement.

After a quick search for Itunes alternative I found Media monkey has support for Nano 6g, hooray!! So a quick download and install later I could view my ipod in media monkey.
However as I had experienced with a previous attempt to use Media Monkey could not edit or delete songs from my ipod. However I could copy songs to my ipod... so i had a feeling i was on the right track.

After exploring the hidden file system on my ipod (see here for showing hidden folders in windows 7) I found that the songs loaded my Media Monkey were retained there file names and could be played right along side all the files with the random files names from itunes. If you have ever looked in your Itunes library you know what i mean (XY02.mp3 GH07.mp3 etc, etc!)

Now I knew i was onto something!

With this revelation I knew it was time to remove everything related to Apple and itunes from my computer except for the bare essentials alowing windows to recognize my ipod.

3. Removing Apple

I uninstalled anything that I though may not directly effect windows recognizing my Ipod:

Itunes
apple software update
quicktime

leaving behind only:

bounjour
Apple Application support

So I now had a relatively apple free computer but my Ipod was still infected with the Itunes filing system.

I recklossly deleted the Itunes folder and all mp3s from my ipod, crossing my finger it would still work...

I then opened media monkey to find an empty Ipod which I could freely copy songs to, edit and delete. Not only that but they all retained there orginal file names and were not rearranged into some insane filing system which replaces file names with random letters and numbers!

Me and my Ipod are free at last from the tyranny of Itunes! :D

久しぶり！

最後の投稿から12ヶ月たちました。ブログを少し怠けたけどその間いろいろなことをやっていたのです！
オーストラリアを旅行したり、日本で結婚したり、奥さんと新しい仕事もしてるのです。まだ他のこともあるけどこれが主要な出来事でした。

今はこれからの夫婦生活のことを考えています。まだまだ考えないといけないことがたくさんあります。どこに住めばいいか、どうやって人生に成功と幸せをもたらすか。誰もこの質問に答えれる人がいないかもしれませんが、奥さんと一緒にだったらどの道を選んでも幸せになれます！

情熱的に考えて

毎日ニュースで、巨大地震が起こったせいで死亡者と行方不明者が増えていると言われている。もし僕が突然死んだら皆は僕のことをどう思っうのかなぁと、その悲劇を見て改めて考えた。普段は快適な生活を送っているし、いろいろなことができるので不満はない。でも、その中で本当に情熱的に行動できていたことはあっただろうか。これから、もっと努力して情熱的に考えたり行動したりできるものを見つけたい！

季節の移り変わり

三月がはじまって天気は少し暖かくなってきたが、毎日雪が降っているしこの三日間でつもったパウダーがあるんだ。いつまで滑れるかなぁ、それとこの冬のあと仕事が見つけられるかなぁと思っている。現在の仕事の契約は3月の終わりまでけど最近お客さんが4月に部屋を予約したので僕の契約も延長できそうに思う。


さぁ、とりあえず履歴書を準備して次の仕事を探そう！

実はオーストラリアで造園設計者として働いていたんだけれどその様な仕事は日本ではなかなか見つけられない。しかし、僕のビザの有効期限は7月23日なのでニセコでなにかバイトを探した方がいい。そしてビザが切れたらイギリスかカナダへ行き、また造園の仕事を始めると思う。海外でいろいろ経験を積んで、見聞を広めて日本語の勉強を海外でも続けて数年経ったら、日本に戻ろうかなぁ。

色々と考えすぎかな。とりあえず移りゆく季節を楽しんで、滑りに行こう！

さぁ、新年始まりました。あっという間に今年も終わるのかなぁと思っています。
でも今年は考えなければならないことがたくさんあるので時間を無駄にしないように準備を始めます！

現在は白馬のあぜくら山荘に滞在している。
運転免許所の問題発見したし、風邪を引いてるし、遠距離恋愛している俺は今ちょっとdown
な感をしている。でも明日、友達と山登りに行く予定があるので早く回復しなきゃ。

Progress with goals:

1.Sell Something.. So far just an idea for a mini note book designed for language learners..

2.Meet 3 influential designers.. So far got one name for the list: 東 信 (azuma makoto)

3. Link blog, twitter and facebook... done! But need to explore the usefulness of Twitter more.

4. Fix up previous blog posts.. done!

5. Yoga.. No progress. I really hope one of my flat mates up north likes Yoga and can help motivate me.

What has been and what will be

I`ve neglected this blog for a few months now and I think it is basically because I am doing so much Japanese (at work and study) that I have lost the motivation to spend time to write a post in Japanese. So I'm taking a break in English to catch up on what I`ve done so far and some future goals.

So since I have been living in Japan I have worked as

Landscape Architect Intern, Obihiro, Hokkaido

Lodge Assistant, Hakuba, Nagano-Ken

Landscape Gardener, Kumamoto, Kyushu

My next job starting in three weeks is as an apartment manager in Niseko, Hokkaido, for the winter season. I'm accumulating a variety of experiences and contacts throughout Japan and as my Japanese improves it is easier to find more opportunities. But where is this all leading? Not really sure at the moment so thought it might be time to set some more goals for my time in Japan.

1. Sell something.. not sure what but seems like a fun thing to try...drugs? hehe
2. Meet three influential Japanese designers.
3. Link my blog, portfolio website and twitter and Join communities.
4. Fix up my last couple of half finished posts.
5. Practice more Yoga and meditation (mini goal: Be able to touch the ground with the palms of my hand while standing with legs straight by end of year.)

Long Term goal: Take the test to Join the Japanese Association of Landscape Architects. I'm estimating this will require about another 3 years study and design experience.

Basically up until now this blog has just been a basic record of my improvements in Japanese. It is time to change course a bit and integrate my Interests in Design, Language, Technology etc together so I can grow some new ideas.

So the new direction has been set and I'm excited about all the possibilities that lay ahead!

Golden Week

GW　４月２９日―５月６日

２９日
早起きて窓の外に見ると一面白を目前しびっくりした！また雪が降っちゃった！　ＧＷの天気はずっと寒いかなぁと思った。
帯広から３時間バスで札幌に行ってやっと彼女に会った。嬉しかったぁぁ！：）俺と彼女の考えが一致、食べに行こうよ！いいレストランを見つけてハヤシライスとハムバーグを頼んだ。美味しかったぁぁ！それから３時間電車で函館に行って北海道の素晴らしい広い景色を味わった。函館で泊まったホテルはスマイルホテル。。。；）
函館はいろんな綺麗な歴史的建物があってイギリスの影響を受けていた。函館の料理はやっぱり美味しかった。夜はロープウェイを乗って素晴らしい夜景を見た。

３０日　小樽
小樽も美味しい食べ物が多かった！LeＴaoチーズケーキ、ソフトクリーム、寿司など。
一番楽しかったご飯は屋台横丁で食べながらよぱらったサラリーマンと喋ったご飯。いろいろいいアドバイスしてくれたね。。。

１－５日　札幌

Swankyホテルに泊まった。Ｓｗａｎｋｙって面白い名前だね。英語でＳｗａｎｋｙというと凄いお金持ちの５スタールホテルのイメージが浮かぶ。そのホテルは全然Ｓｗａnkyじゃなかった！とにかく快適だった：）

結局はすごく楽しかった！

自己紹介

最近九州のアルバイトのためにいろんな自己紹介を書いていた。だから簡単のブログ投稿（コピー、取り付け）場合があると思う。；）

私はオーストラリアの田舎町で生まれ育ったので、子供の頃から自然環境の重要さを感じ、ランドスケープに興味を持ち続けてきました。ですからランドスケープの写真を撮り、CGの技術を身につけたかったので、高校ではビジュアルアートを勉強していました。

その後３年間のうち、一年間はインターネットの会社で働き、２年間は大学でITを勉強しましたがITよりもデザインをやりたくて、２００３年University of Canberraに入学し、ランドスケープアーキテクチャを勉強しながらNational Capital Authority（都市計画機関）でアルバイトの仕事をしていました。大学を卒業してからはNCAで社員として働き、２００７からシドニーのランドスケープアーキテクチャ会社でランドスケープアーキテクトとして働いていました。

今年の６月まで高野ランドスケーププランニングで研修生として働いています。２０１１年７月まで有効のワーキングホリデービザを所持していますので残り時間が九州に住みたいです。私の彼女は熊本に住んでいますので近くで仕事を見つけたいです。

私の趣味は写真撮影、ブログを書くこと、漫画を読むこと、CGI、自然のなかにスポーツ（スキーとかマウンテンバイキングとかハイキングなど）です。

一歩一歩上達への道。

今月は早い！音更に来てから毎日沢山学んでいる。日本語とかTLPの設計方法とか北海道の歴史などなど。これまで一番興味のあることは共働学舎（キョドウガクシャ）という酪農場のプロジェクト。このプロジェクトはスタートから参加しTLPのダイナミックなデザインプロセスを学んでいる。共働学舎の代表は農場の未来のためにマスタープランを作りたいようである。最初のステージは共働学舎でワークショップを行い、スタッフとマスタープランについて議論した。　ワークショップで以下の問題を提出した：

１． 共働学舎の誇りに思えるところ
２． 共働学舎の課題点、改善すべきこと
３． 共働学舎これから取り組みたいこと

議論しながらホワイトボートにポストイットに書いた要点を貼っていた。議論の最後には似ている要点を集め、スタッフの主な心配やアイデアを示すことができた。

つぎのステージは農場の地域のモデルを作ってワークショップの要点を分析する。モデルを作ることは久しぶりなので楽しみ！

二十五番 － 三週間過ごした

今横浜のインターネット カフェでブログを更新している。この３週間は楽しかったよ！いろいろな所に行って人と出会って沢山美味しい物を食べた。さらに毎日新しい単語を学んで日本語がぐんぐん上達している。

Things I`ve learnt not to do in Japan:

- Leave wallet with 100km of where I`m staying and forget about it...doh.
- Keep putting coins in to pay for the bus thinking it will show me when the correct change has been put in (only did this once).
- Think that there will ever be a door way I don`t have to duck for.
- Try and navigate though a forest with no map and direction signs only in Kanji. Really this isn`t a good idea even if the signs were in English.
- Leave my bag (containing passport, phone, and most of my money) in a car then go to catch a flight within 15min until departure. Somehow I got on the plane with my bag with about 30 seconds to spare.

I think I am becoming even more absentminded than usual due to trying to speak / understand Japanese constantly. So now I'm trying to spend a bit more time thinking about importent things like where my bag and wallet are as well as going over past conversations and thinking about what I may want to say next. Anyway I know with time the need to prepare my words will diminish and I will be able to react more quickly.

Cool things I didn`t know I could do before I arrived:

- Go to an Internet cafe not only to use the Internet but also order some food, get free drinks, take a shower and choose from a billion different manga to read.

- Most people are easily impressed if I eat whatever they suggest and drink a lot without getting easily drunk.

- Get semi lost in a forest trying to get to a look out with no food or drink to discover 4 vending machines at the look out. Ahh I have never been so happy at Japan`s ridiculous amount of vending machines.

- Practice Japanese for hours on end with religious types by pretending I'm really interested in their religion.

- Japanese subtitles on 90% of TV shows, study has never been so easy!

Yeah Im being kinda lazy but that part of the song sums up the fun of travel better than anything I could write. So here I am 2 years on from when I first started learning Japanese with only a few hours left before I move to Japan. I still have so much to learn and I intend to have as fun much as possible learning it! :D

The seems like a good time to reflect back on the last two years and think about what I would do differently when starting out in a new language:

- Not use any text books, rather use native speakers children’s materials.
- Have a set character limit of sentences I copy into Anki. My stubborn persistence with long overly complicated sentences really slowed me down.
- More effort to sample a greater variety of material made for native speakers. There is definitely a need for a massive turn over and sampling of new materials to make sure there is constant access to interesting stuff that will keep the motivation up.
- Learn more simple songs! They are the best learning device ever.

Well that will do it for now, hopefully more interesting posts once I reach Japan. Oh and for the record my Anki deck currently stands at 1950 cards... Didn't quite reach the 2g mark before I have to leave! :D

最近俺の日本に住む予定が明確になった。北海道のランドスケープの会社でインターンシップに参加することができる。お金を十分貯まるのを待って来年一月日本に行きたい。まず熊本に行って彼女に会いたい。そしたら電車で南から北まで旅して東京それとも北海道で友達(多分また親！）に会ってスキーをしたい。旅の後でインターンシップを始めたい。じゃあ今からよく考えよう。今からよく考えなきゃならない。

二十番 － 着々と進歩している

相変わらず早い一月一月を 過ごしている。　最近仕事が忙しくないからもっと勉強時間を増やしている。
週末はランゲージエクスチェンジ に行って３時間も日本語を話していた！勿論話しながら沢山間違っていたけどもっと練習したら早い進歩が期待できる。

Yeah so thats my new thing... starting the post in Japanese. Crazy new dynamc thinking that will boost my langauage ability by 300%...at least! Aside from this great advancement everything continues along quite smoothly also. Ran out of new and interesting stuff for a while due to going over my monthly down load limit and getting restricted to near dial-up speeds.

The last month I have been sampling tons of new music, to much to bother listing so I'm just going to go with my top 3:

1. "YES" Ryhme dentity - little
2. Dosmoccos - Champ road
3. The Adventures of Kohei Japan - Kohei Japan

Actually I think I came by all of these over a month ago but they are still my top three!.

That will do for now, I think I will try doing more frequent short posts for a while.

So things are still progressing and as the title suggests my aim is just to keep a list of never ending cool things to watch/listen/read in Japanese. As soon as I start running a bit dry or find myself repeating the same thing to much I can feel my interest dip slightly.
